Split Rock

Treacherous. The Great Storm of November 1905 wrecked 29 ships; justifying the construction of the Split Rock Lighthouse. Minnesota’s rugged north shore is a critical area for navigation of ore boats and other ships into Duluth and Two Harbors. At one point over 3,500 ship arrivals occurred in one season; more than New York Harbor’s 12 month volume.
